Purcell is a small, quiet place in Doniphan County, Kansas, in the United States. It is called an "unincorporated community" because it does not have its own local government like a city or town. Purcell is located about 5 miles (8 kilometers) east of a place called Everest. You can find it near K-20 and right on K-137, which are highways in Kansas.

History of Purcell

Purcell began as a community around the year 1886. One of the first people to settle there was a man named John Purcell, and the community was named after him.

The Purcell Post Office

A post office is a place where people can send and receive mail. The Purcell post office first opened its doors in May 1887. It served the community for many years, helping people connect through letters and packages. However, the post office eventually closed down in June 1956.

St. Mary's Catholic Church

Purcell is home to a special building called St. Mary's Catholic Church. This church is very old and important, so it has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means it is recognized by the United States government as a historic site that should be protected because of its cultural or historical value.
