The Pyongyang Chewing Gum Factory is a special place in Pyongyang, North Korea, where they make lots of chewing gum. This factory is managed by a company called Korea Ponghwa General.

How It Started

The Pyongyang Gum Factory first opened in October 2003. It was built on a large piece of land in an area called Rakrang-guyok. The factory building itself was about 4,400 square meters. Every year, the factory could make about 1,200 tons of chewing gum.

In 2008, the factory moved to a brand new spot. This new building was on Tong'il Street in Chung-guyok. Soldiers from the Korean People's Army helped build the new factory. In January 2009, Kim Jong-il visited the factory to see how things were going. A picture book about the factory was even made in 2010.

What They Make

One of the chewing gums they make is called Unbangul Chewing Gum (은방울 껌). The news agency KCNA says this gum can help your teeth and gums stay strong. It might also stop cavities and tartar. Plus, it could help with bad breath and digestion.

You can find this gum in different flavors like grape, peppermint, and strawberry. It also comes in flat, round, and square shapes. There's even a lemon-flavored gum that has vitamin C in it! The main things used to make the gum are edible rubber, sugar, glycerine, flavoring, and natural food coloring.
