Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Quipolly is a small place in New South Wales, Australia. It's known for being where an old railway station used to be. This station was part of the Main North railway line. Quipolly is located about 8 kilometers (about 5 miles) south of a town called Werris Creek.

What is Quipolly?

Quipolly isn't a big town today. It's more of a rural area. In 2006, about 327 people lived there. It's a quiet spot in the Australian countryside.

The Old Railway Station

The railway station at Quipolly was open for many years. It started operating in 1879. Trains used to stop there, connecting people and goods to other places. However, the station closed down in 1974. That's almost 100 years of history! Today, you won't find any buildings or signs of the old station. It has all been removed.

What is a Passing Loop?

Even though the station is gone, there's still something important for trains at Quipolly. It's called a "passing loop." A passing loop is a special section of railway track. It allows trains traveling in opposite directions to pass each other. It also lets a faster train go around a slower one. This helps keep trains moving smoothly on the line.
