History of Radio Disney Brasil

Changes to the 91.3 FM frequency

In 2009, another radio station, FM Nossa Radio, stopped broadcasting on 91.3 MHz. It moved to a different frequency. This made people wonder what would happen to the 91.3 frequency in São Paulo.

Soon after, the station started playing music for adults. Then, news spread that the Disney Group might buy a radio station in the city. The Disney Group bought a small part of the radio station. They partnered with a Brazilian company called Radio Holding LTDA. This deal was a big investment for a foreign company in Brazil at that time.

Starting the project

In early 2010, the Disney Group got permission to use the 91.3 frequency. The station started playing youth-focused pop music all the time. They played songs by artists like Demi Lovato and Miley Cyrus.

The idea was to create a radio station for young people. It would be very interactive. Listeners could join in through social media, text messages, and phone calls. In 2012, the station announced new broadcast studios. This was to make the sound quality even better for listeners.

Promoting the new station

In October 2010, a new campaign started. It was called "91.3 Que radio es esa?" This means "91.3 What radio [station] is that?" It made many radio listeners in São Paulo very excited.

The station announced its first DJs. They were Monica Leon, Telma Emerick, Roberto Hais, Serginho Bralle, and Marcelo Bressane. During this time, the future Radio Disney shared its contact phone number. It also launched a temporary website. They even gave away tickets for listeners to see the Jonas Brothers in Brazil. In August 2011, a company called Crowley Broadcast Analysis started checking the station's audience numbers.

Official launch of Radio Disney

On November 7, 2010, the station officially announced its name: Radio Disney. It also announced the launch date: November 29. This ended almost a year of mystery!

The station officially launched at 7 AM on November 29. Telma Emerick was the first announcer on air. Many Brazilian artists called in that day to wish the new station good luck.
