Her Acting Life
Rachel Kempson studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). After her training, she joined the Royal Shakespeare Company, a famous theater group.
In 1935, she married Michael Redgrave, who was also an actor. They often performed on stage together. Rachel Kempson also acted in many films and television shows. Some of her notable films include The Captive Heart, The Sea Shall Not Have Them (where she acted alongside her husband), Out of Africa, and Uncle Vanya. On television, she appeared in series like Jennie: Lady Randolph Churchill and The Jewel in the Crown.
She also worked with her children in movies. She made three films with her daughter Lynn Redgrave, including Tom Jones and Georgy Girl. She also made two films with her other daughter Vanessa Redgrave, such as The Charge of the Light Brigade, which also featured her son Corin Redgrave. Her last film was Déjà Vu in 1997.

Her Family Life
Rachel Kempson was born in Dartmouth, Devon, England. Her father was a headmaster named Eric William Edward Kempson.
She married Michael Redgrave in 1935. Their family became known as the Redgrave family, a famous group of actors. Rachel and Michael had three children who all became actors:
- Vanessa Redgrave (born 1937)
- Corin Redgrave (1939–2010)

She also had many grandchildren who became actors, including Joely Richardson, Natasha Richardson (1963–2009), and Jemma Redgrave.
In 1959, her husband, Michael Redgrave, was given the title of "Sir" by the Queen. This meant Rachel formally became Lady Redgrave. However, she preferred to use her birth name, Rachel Kempson, for her acting career.
