Rafael Chirbes facts for kids
Rafael Chirbes (born June 27, 1949 – died August 15, 2015) was a famous Spanish writer. He was born in Tavernes de la Valldigna, a town in Valencia, Spain. Chirbes wrote many novels and essays.
He is especially known for two of his novels, Crematorio (2007) and En la orilla (2013). Both of these books won the important Premio de la Crítica de narrativa castellana award. His novel En la orilla also won another big award, the Premio Nacional de Narrativa.
Rafael Chirbes also wrote a group of three novels that tell stories about Spain after a war. These books are called La larga marcha, La caída de Madrid, and Los viejos amigos. He also published several collections of essays, which are books of short writings on different topics.
In 2014, his 2007 novel Crematorio was made into a popular television series. This helped more people discover his work.
