Rafael Pérez y Pérez was a very popular Spanish writer. He was born on September 18, 1891, and passed away on April 24, 1984. Both his birth and death took place in Quatretondeta, a town in the Province of Alicante, Spain.
He wrote over 160 romantic novels between 1909 and 1971. He was one of the first authors to publish romance novels in the Spanish language. His books became very famous. They were translated into 22 different languages. By 1977, more than 5 million copies of his novels had been sold. Some of his stories were even made into movies!
About Rafael Pérez y Pérez
Rafael Pérez y Pérez was born in Quatretondeta, Spain. From a young age, he was interested in history. In 1909, he won his first award for a historical book called Las Germanías de Valencia.
He first worked as a teacher. Later, he became an inspector for primary schools. He started publishing his novels in the 1920s. His books became very successful, especially during the 1940s. He continued writing until 1971. He had to stop because he was slowly losing his eyesight.
His novels that were set in medieval times were particularly popular. Many people loved these stories. Five of his novels were even turned into films:
