Raimon Casellas facts for kids
Raimon Casellas i Dou (born in Barcelona, January 7, 1855 – died in Sant Joan de les Abadesses, November 2, 1910) was a famous Catalan writer. He was also a journalist, an art critic, and a collector. He is best known for his book Els sots feréstecs (1901).
This book is thought to be the first modernisme novel written in the Catalan language. It also helped start a style called rural naturalism. Els sots feréstecs was later translated into English as Dark Vales.

About Raimon Casellas
Raimon Casellas wrote many articles about art and beauty. These articles appeared in popular magazines like L'Avenç and La Vanguardia. In 1899, he became the main editor of the newspaper La Veu de Catalunya. His writings had a big impact on Catalan artists of his time.
His Famous Book: Els sots feréstecs
Els sots feréstecs was published in 1901. The story is about a priest named Father Llàtzer. He is sent away from the city to a small village church. This happens because of his different ideas about religion.
His arrival causes a lot of trouble among the people in the village of Sant Pau de Montmany. The story shows how the modernisme art movement tried to change society but faced difficulties.
An Art Collector
Casellas was also very keen on collecting art. His large collection is now kept at the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya. It includes over 4,000 drawings and nearly 400 engravings. These works show the talent of about 250 different artists.
