Raines was located on the southern edge of Memphis. It was nestled between other areas like West Junction and Oakville. To its north was the community of Whitehaven. In 1950, Raines was a very small place, with only about 300 people living there.

Becoming Part of Memphis

In 1958, Raines officially joined the City of Memphis. This process is called "incorporation," which means a smaller town or area becomes a formal part of a larger city. After this, Raines was no longer a separate suburb but became a neighborhood within Memphis.

Even though Raines was a small community, a talented musician was born there. His name was Joe Hill Louis, and he was known as a "one-man-band." This means he could play several instruments all by himself at the same time!
