Raja Biru's Time as Queen
Facing Challenges and Building Strength
Raja Biru became queen in 1616 when she was about 50 years old. During her rule, the Sultanate of Patani faced increasing threats from a powerful neighbor, the Siamese kingdom.
To protect her land, Queen Raja Biru ordered a skilled craftsman named Tok Kayan to build three very large cannons. These cannons were important for defending Patani. One of these famous cannons, named Phaya Tani, was later taken by the Siamese. Today, you can find it in Bangkok.
Queen Raja Biru also worked to make her kingdom stronger by bringing other areas closer. She convinced the Kelantan Sultanate in the south to join with Patani. This helped to expand Patani's influence and power.
Raja Biru ruled for about eight years. She passed away in 1624. After her death, her younger sister, Raja Ungu, became the new queen. Raja Ungu had been married to the Sultan of Pahang and returned to Patani after her husband passed away.
