Rakitu Island is a small island located off the northeast coast of Great Barrier Island in the Auckland Region of New Zealand. It's also known as "Arid Island." This island is special because no people live there.
Rakitu Island covers about 253 hectares (that's about 2.5 square kilometers). It sits about 4 kilometers away from Whangapoua Beach. The island helps protect the bay of Whangapoua Creek, making the waters there calmer.
