Ralf Rocchigiani (born February 13, 1963) is a former professional boxer from Duisburg-Hamborn, Germany. He is well-known as the older brother of Graciano Rocchigiani, who was also a famous world boxing champion.
Ralf's Boxing Journey
Ralf Rocchigiani started his professional boxing career in 1983. He quickly showed his talent, winning the German cruiserweight championship in 1985. He tried twice to win the European light heavyweight title but didn't succeed.
His biggest achievement came on June 10, 1995. Ralf won the WBO cruiserweight championship! He earned this title by defeating Carl Thompson with a technical knockout. A technical knockout happens when the referee stops the fight because one boxer can't safely continue, even if they're not knocked out cold.
Ralf held onto his championship belt for more than two years. He successfully defended his title six times against different challengers, including a tough fight against Bash Ali. However, he lost his title in a rematch with Carl Thompson in 1997. Ralf Rocchigiani officially retired from boxing in 1999. During his career, he was part of the "Universum Boxpromotions" company and was trained by Fritz Sdunek.
