Ralf Rocchigiani, born on February 13, 1963, is a former professional boxer from Germany. He was known for his strong performances in the boxing ring. Ralf competed as a boxer from 1983 until 1999.
He achieved a major success by winning the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) cruiserweight title. He held this important championship from 1995 to 1997. Before that, he also won the German national title twice. Ralf is the older brother of another famous boxer, Graciano Rocchigiani, who was also a world champion.
Ralf's Boxing Journey
Ralf Rocchigiani started his professional boxing career in 1983. Early in his career, in 1985, he won the German cruiserweight championship. This was a big step for him in his home country.
He tried to win the European light heavyweight title a couple of times but wasn't successful. He also aimed for the WBO cruiserweight championship in 1992 but lost that fight.
However, Ralf kept working hard. On June 10, 1995, he finally won the WBO cruiserweight title. He won this title by defeating Carl Thompson. Ralf successfully defended his world title six times against different challengers, including Bash Ali. He held the championship for more than two years.
In 1997, he had a rematch with Carl Thompson and lost his WBO title. Ralf Rocchigiani officially retired from boxing in 1999. During his career, he was trained by Fritz Sdunek, a well-known boxing coach.
