Ralph Adolphus Lewis is a former professional basketball player from the United States. He was born on March 28, 1963. Standing 6 feet 6 inches tall, he played as a guard. He went to La Salle University for college.
College Basketball Star
Ralph Lewis was a great player during his four years at La Salle University. He scored a total of 1,807 points, averaging about 15.6 points per game. He was chosen for the First Team All-MAAC twice (1983–1984 and 1984–1985). He was also named to the First Team All-Philadelphia Big 5 in both 1984 and 1985.
In 1984, he won the Geasey Award, which is given to the Big 5 Player of the Year. That year, he helped his team, the Explorers, become co-champions of the Big 5. Ralph Lewis was honored for his achievements by being added to the La Salle Hall of Athletes in 1990. He was also inducted into the Big 5 Hall of Fame in 1991.
Playing in the NBA
Ralph Lewis was picked by the Boston Celtics in the 1985 NBA draft. He started his professional career in 1987 with the Detroit Pistons. He also played with the Charlotte Hornets.
Coaching Basketball
After his playing career, Ralph Lewis became a basketball coach. He was the head coach for the Huntsville Flight team in the NBA Development League for three seasons. During that time, his team won 73 games and lost 71.
In 2005, he became an assistant coach for the Seattle SuperSonics. Later, on December 26, 2010, Lewis was hired as one of three assistant coaches for the Charlotte Bobcats. He worked under the interim head coach, Paul Silas.
