Sir Ralph Warren (born around 1486 – died July 11, 1553) was an important person in London's history. He was chosen to be the Lord Mayor of London two times. First, he served in 1536, and then again in 1543. He was a successful merchant, dealing in fine fabrics.
Sir Ralph Warren's Life
Ralph Warren was the son of Sir Thomas Warren of Feering, Essex. He became a successful London mercer. A mercer was someone who traded in valuable fabrics like silk.
Before becoming Lord Mayor, he served as an alderman. An alderman was a member of the city's governing council. He also served as a Sheriff in 1528. Sheriffs helped keep order and manage the city's finances.
He was first elected Lord Mayor in 1536. During this first year, King Henry VIII made him a knight. He served as Lord Mayor again in 1543.
Sir Ralph Warren lived in a historic house called Fulham House. This house is located at 87 Fulham High Street in Fulham, London.
In 1545, he gave a special sword to the City of London. This sword might be the famous Pearl Sword. The Pearl Sword is one of the five ceremonial swords used by the City of London today.
Sir Ralph Warren passed away on July 11, 1553. He was buried in the church of St. Osythe's, also known as St Benet Sherehog.

Sir Ralph Warren was married two times. His first wife was Christiana Warcup. She was the widow of Roger North. Christiana had a son and a daughter from her first marriage. Her son was Sir Edward North. Her daughter was Joan North, who later became known as Joan Wilkinson.
Sir Ralph Warren's second wife was Joan Trelake. She was the daughter of John Trelake from Cornwall. Ralph and Joan had two children together. Their son was Richard Warren (who died in 1598). Their daughter was Joan Warren (who died in 1584). Joan Warren married Sir Henry Williams. Henry Williams was the grandfather of Oliver Cromwell, a very important figure in English history.
After Sir Ralph Warren died, his wife Joan married again. On November 25, 1558, she married Sir Thomas White. He was also an alderman of London and founded St John's College, Oxford.
