Ramón Ernesto Cruz Uclés (born January 4, 1903 – died August 6, 1985) was an important leader in Honduras. He served as the President of Honduras from June 7, 1971, to December 4, 1972. He was a lawyer and a politician who worked to serve his country.

Life Story of Ramón Ernesto Cruz
Ramón Ernesto Cruz Uclés was born in a town called San Juan de Flores in Honduras. His father was Carlos Alberto Cruz, and his mother was Elisa Ucles Rosales. Ramón was the oldest of six children. His brothers and sisters were Herlinda, Carlos, Raul, Rene, and Marta.
Early Education and Studies
In 1917, Ramón went to a special school for teachers called the Escuela Normal. He finished his studies there and became a primary school teacher. After that, he traveled to Guatemala City. There, he earned another degree called Bachiller en Ciencias y Letras, which is like a high school diploma focused on science and literature.
Later, Ramón Ernesto Cruz returned to Honduras to continue his education. He studied at the National Autonomous University of Honduras. In 1928, he graduated with degrees in Science and Law, becoming a lawyer.
Important Roles in Government
Ramón Ernesto Cruz held several important positions throughout his career.
- From 1946 to 1948, he worked as an Ambassador for Honduras in El Salvador. This meant he represented his country and worked to build good relationships with El Salvador.
- He was also a member of the Supreme Court of Honduras for many years, from 1949 to 1964. The Supreme Court is the highest court in the country, making important legal decisions.
- He even worked at the International Court of Justice in The Hague. This is a very important court where countries can solve legal problems peacefully.
Becoming President
Ramón Ernesto Cruz was a member of the National Party of Honduras. He tried to become president in 1963, but another leader, General Oswaldo López Arellano, took control of the country instead.
However, General López allowed new elections to happen in April 1971. Ramón Ernesto Cruz ran for president again and this time he won! He became the President of Honduras on June 7, 1971.
End of His Presidency
President Cruz served for about 18 months. In December 1972, he was removed from power by the military. This event is known as a military coup, where the military takes control of the government. General López, who had been in power before, led this change again.
Ramón Ernesto Cruz Uclés passed away on August 6, 1985, in Tegucigalpa, the capital city of Honduras. He was 82 years old.
