Ramon Gener Sala (born in Barcelona, Spain, in 1967), often called Ramon Gener, is a Spanish musician, writer, and thinker. He is also a pianist and used to be an opera singer. Ramon studied both music and business. After singing opera for a few years, he decided to become a speaker and share his love for music with others.

In 2011, he started hosting a TV show called Òpera en Texans (Opera in Jeans). Later, he also directed and hosted other popular shows like This is Opera (2015), This is Art (2017, 2018), and 200; una noche en el Prado (2019).

Early Life and Learning Music

Ramon Gener Sala started learning music when he was just 6 years old. He studied piano at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona until he was 11. After a break, he went back to piano lessons at 18. He learned from a pianist named Anna Maria Albors.

He also began studying opera singing. He was taught by the famous singer Victoria de los Ángeles. Ramon continued his singing studies in Warsaw with Jerzy Artysz and in Barcelona with Eduard Giménez i Gràcia [ca]. While studying music, he also earned degrees in Humanities and Business Sciences.

His Career Journey

Ramon Gener Sala first performed as a singer at the Palau de la Música Catalana. He played the main role in the opera Noye's Fludde by Benjamin Britten. After this, he sang as a baritone in many famous musical works. These included Fauré's Requiem and Bach's Magnificat. He also performed in operas like The Marriage of Figaro and The Magic Flute.

In 1999, he sang at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in the opera Sly. He returned there in 2000 for Billy Budd.

From Singer to TV Host

Later, Ramon stopped singing professionally. However, he kept teaching and giving talks about music history and opera. People loved his talks so much that he was invited to work in television.

In 2011, his show Opera en texans (Opera in Jeans) began on channel 33. In this show, Ramon explained opera in a fun and easy-to-understand way. The program ran for three seasons. It won an award for being the best informative or cultural show in 2011.

In 2014, Ramon Gener published his first book, Si Beethoven pogués escoltar-me (If Beethoven Could Listen to Me). It was first written in Catalan and then published in Spanish a year later.

International TV Success

In 2015, Ramon Gener directed and hosted This is Opera. This was a big show made with international partners. It had 30 episodes filmed in both Spanish and English. Ramon was the host, an expert, a pianist, and an entertainer on the show.

This is Opera was shown in many countries around the world. These included Germany, Italy, Portugal, Australia, Mexico, and South Korea. The show also won an award for being the best informative program. Ramon Gener himself won an award for best presenter.

In 2016, he released his second book, L'amor et farà immortal (Love Will Make You Immortal). This book was also published in both Catalan and Spanish.
