Ramon Bautista Revilla Sr. (born Jose Acuña Bautista; March 8, 1927 – June 26, 2020) was a famous Filipino actor and politician. People often called him Ramon Revilla Sr.. He was known as the "Hari ng Agimat" (King of Amulets) and "King of True-to-Life Stories" in Philippine movies. He also served as a Senator for the country.

Education and Early Career

Ramon Revilla Sr. studied at Far Eastern University. He earned a bachelor's degree in commerce there.

He first tried acting in movies. But he only got small parts. So, he left the film industry for a while.

Film Career and Famous Roles

Ramon Revilla Sr. returned to movies in 1972. His film Nardong Putik: Kilabot ng Cavite made him very famous. He then started his own film company, Imus Productions. He wrote and directed his own movies.

He became known for playing characters like "Pepeng Agimat" and "Nardong Putik." These characters had special anting-anting (amulets). These amulets gave them superhuman powers. His movies were so popular that ABS-CBN made some of them into TV series. These shows were called Agimat: Ang Mga Alamat ni Ramon Revilla.

Awards and Recognitions

Ramon Revilla Sr. won many awards for his acting and producing.

  • In 1973, he won a Famas Best Actor Award. This was for his movie "Hulihin si Tiyagong Akyat." His son, Marlon Bautista, also won an award for the same movie.
  • His company, Imus Productions, was named Outstanding Film Production in 1975.
  • The next year, he won the Outstanding Producer of the Year Award.
  • In 1979, he was named Most Outstanding Actor and Box Office King.
  • In 2011, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award. This was from the Catholic Mass Media Awards.

Political Career as Senator

In 1992, Ramon Revilla Sr. became a Senator. He served for two terms until 2004. During his time as a senator, he helped create important laws.

One of his most well-known laws was called the "Revilla Bill." This bill changed a part of the Family Code Law in the Philippines. It allowed children to use their father's last name. This could happen if the father officially recognized them. Senator Revilla Sr. believed that "The child should not suffer the stigma of his illegitimacy." This law was passed in February 2004.

Personal Life and Passing

Ramon Revilla Sr. was the youngest of 10 children. His parents were Ildefonso Bautista and Andrea Acuña. He had many children, including his sons Bong, Ram, and Strike, who also became well-known.

He passed away on June 26, 2020, at the age of 93. He died from heart failure.

Legacy and Memorials

Statue and Museum

On his 90th birthday, a large bronze statue of Ramon Revilla Sr. was revealed. It was made by famous Filipino sculptor Eduardo Castrillo. The statue is 10 meters tall and stands at his home in Bacoor, Cavite.

Also, his children opened a museum called "Memo Revilla." This museum shows old photos of him. It also displays items from his movies. These include his famous anting-anting (amulet) and panday (sword). Many famous people from movies and politics attended his birthday celebration.
