Ramon Saizarbitoria, born on April 21, 1944, in San Sebastián, is a famous Basque writer and sociologist. He is known for his important contributions to Basque literature, especially for modernizing the Basque novel.

About Ramon Saizarbitoria
His Life and Career
Ramon Saizarbitoria studied sociology at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland. He now leads the Center for Documentation and Sociological Studies in San Sebastián, Spain. He has written many books about social services.
Since the mid-1960s, Ramon has worked in media in the Basque Country. In 1967, he helped create LUR publishing, a company that prints books. In the 1970s, he started a literary magazine called "Oh! Euskadi."
Saizarbitoria mostly writes novels. However, he has also written essays and poetry. He is one of the most important authors in Basque literature. Many people see him, along with 'Txillardegi', as the person who updated the Basque novel for modern times. In 1986, his book Ehun Metro was even made into a movie by director Alfonso Ungría.

- Gorde nazazu lurpean (Erein, 2000). The Spanish version is: Guárdame bajo tierra (Alfaguara, 2002).
- Kandinskyren tradizioa (Erein, 2003). This book is bilingual, meaning it's in two languages: Kandinskyren tradizioa-La tradición de Kandinsky (Atenea, 2003).
- Martutene" (Erein, 2012). It has a Spanish version: Martutene (Erein, 2013) and an English version: Martutene (HispaBooks, Madrid, 2016).
