Aviation Theme and Art Deco Style
The Rand Tower is famous for its unique design. Much of the building is covered in Art Deco decorations. This style was popular in the 1920s and 1930s.
The decorations often show an aviation (flying) theme. This is a tribute to Rufus R. Rand's love for airplanes. Inside the main lobby, there is a special sculpture called Wings. It was created by an artist named Oskar J. W. Hansen.
History and Changes Over Time
In 1969, a skyway was added to the building. A skyway is a covered bridge that connects buildings above street level. This helps people walk between buildings without going outside.
The Rand Tower was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. This means it is an important historical site that should be protected.
For a while, the building was known as the Dain Tower. This was because a company called Dain Rauscher had its offices there. They moved out in 1992.
Since 2004, the Rand Tower has gone through many changes. Different companies have owned it and worked to make it better. In 2017, Maven Real Estate Partners bought the building.
From Offices to a Hotel
Maven Real Estate Partners decided to turn the office building into a hotel. It is now a Tribute by Marriott hotel. This big renovation cost a lot of money and was finished in December 2020.
The Rand Tower is located at 527 Marquette Avenue in Minneapolis. It continues to be an important part of the city's history and skyline.
