Randi Lives in Norway is a wonderful children's book. It was written by the famous Swedish author Astrid Lindgren. The book also features amazing photos by Anna Riwkin-Brick. It was first published in 1965. Its original title in Swedish is Randi bor i Norge.
Randi's Story
Randi lives in a place called Lofoten, in Norway. Her dad is a fisherman. Randi loves to play with her friend and neighbor, Helga.
One day, Randi decides to play with Reidar instead. Helga tries to join them. But Randi throws a snowball right at Helga's face! Then Randi runs off with Reidar.
Helga doesn't give up easily. She follows them. But Randi and Reidar keep throwing snowballs at her. Helga gets very sad and runs home crying.
That evening, Randi feels bad about what she did. She was mean to Helga. The next morning, Randi wants to play with Helga again. She worries that Helga won't want to see her.
But Helga is a true friend. She wants to play with Randi. Helga tells Randi that she still likes her, even after the snowball fight.
About the Book
Randi Lives in Norway is part of a series called Children's Everywhere. It is the tenth book out of 15 in this collection. The Swedish publisher Rabén & Sjögren first released it in 1965.
This book has been translated into many languages. You can find it in English and German, for example. In the American version, the main character is still called Randi. But in the British version, her name is Gerda. The story takes place in a small village in northern Norway.
