Noy Lives in Thailand is a wonderful children's book written by the famous Swedish author Astrid Lindgren. The book also features amazing photos by Anna Riwkin-Brick. It was first published in Sweden in 1966 by Rabén & Sjögren. This story is part of a special series called Children's Everywhere, which shares tales about kids from different parts of the world.
Noy's Big Adventure in Thailand
The story is about a young girl named Noy. She lives with her parents in a small village in Thailand, not far from the big city of Bangkok. Noy dreams of visiting the exciting city. However, her parents think she is still too young for such a big trip.
One day, Noy's father surprises her! He decides to take her to Bangkok. They travel there together on a raft, which sounds like a fun adventure. Once they arrive, Noy's father needs to do some shopping. He tells Noy to wait for him safely on the raft.
But Noy finds the city too exciting to just sit and wait. She decides to explore on her own. Soon, she gets hungry and wants to find her father's raft again. But the city is so big, and she can't remember the way back!
After a long time, Noy finds a quiet temple. She prays to find her father and then falls asleep because she is so tired. When she wakes up and leaves the temple, she sees her father! He was very worried about her. He takes Noy home, and on the way, Noy tells him that Bangkok is good for two things: it's great to visit, but it's just as great to leave and go home.
About the Book Series
Noy Lives in Thailand is the eleventh book in the Children's Everywhere series. There are 15 books in total in this collection. What's cool is that the stories in this series are based on real events. However, some parts of the stories are changed a little bit to make them even more interesting.
The book was first released in Sweden in 1966. It has been translated into many different languages. You can find it in English, German, and even Hebrew! In the German version, the girl's name is Wanthai, but in the original Swedish and English versions, she is called Noy. The Children's Everywhere series, including Noy Lives in Thailand, became very popular in Israel. This was partly thanks to the translations by a famous poet named Leah Goldberg. A new edition of the book was even published in Israel in 2015.
