The Story of Gennet
The book is about a seven-year-old girl named Gennet. She lives in Ethiopia, a country in Africa. Her name, Gennet, means "paradise" in the Amharic language.
One day, something scary happens. Gennet's little brother, Mamo, gets bitten by a poisonous snake. Gennet knows she must act fast to save him. She bravely sets off to find a doctor.
On her urgent journey, Gennet sees many wild animals. She spots playful monkeys, large vultures, and beautiful flamingos. When she reaches a deep river, a kind shepherd boy helps her cross safely.
Finally, Gennet arrives at the doctor's house. The doctor understands the emergency right away. He quickly drives his jeep to Mamo to give him help. Thanks to Gennet's bravery, her brother is cured! As a reward for her courage, Gennet receives a lovely yellow dress and a necklace from the market.
About the Book Series

Gennet Lives in Ethiopia has been translated into many different languages. You can find it in Hebrew, English, Danish, and German. In Israel, the series was very popular. This was partly because the poet Leah Goldberg translated the books into Hebrew.
In 2014, an Israeli director named Dvorit Shargal made a documentary film. It was called Where is Elle Kari and what happened to Noriko-san?.
