Randall Desmond Archibald (born February 21, 1960 – died August 14, 2018), known as Randy Rampage, was a Canadian musician. He was a founding member, bass player, and singer for the hardcore punk band D.O.A.. This band is often seen as one of the groups that helped start hardcore punk music. Their album Hardcore '81 is even thought to be the first time the word "hardcore" was used for this type of punk sound.

Randy Rampage was also the lead singer for the thrash metal band Annihilator. He sang with them from 1988 to 1989 and again from 1998 to 2000.

Randy Rampage's Music Journey

Randy Rampage played bass on D.O.A.'s important early punk albums, Something Better Change and Hardcore '81. Other band members included Joey Keithley (singer/guitarist), Chuck Biscuits (drummer), and Dave Gregg (guitarist).

Rampage left D.O.A. in 1981 but came back in 2000. He played on their 2002 album, Win the Battle, before leaving again. He rejoined D.O.A. in 2007 and was part of their album Northern Avenger, which was produced by Bob Rock. He left D.O.A. again just before the Northern Avenger tour.

Singing for Annihilator

Randy Rampage was also the singer for the Canadian speed metal and thrash metal band Annihilator. He joined them in 1988 and sang on their first album, Alice in Hell (1989). He left after the tour for that album. Around 1998, Rampage returned to Annihilator and recorded another album called Criteria for a Black Widow (1999). After this, he left again to rejoin D.O.A.

Solo Work and Other Bands

In 1982, Randy Rampage released his own music on an EP (a short album) called Randy Rampage. He worked with musicians like Chuck Biscuits, Brad Kent, Zippy Pinhead, and Benny Doro on this project.

Randy was also featured in a documentary film called Bloodied But UnBowed. This movie looked at the start of the punk rock scene in Vancouver and how hardcore punk grew in North America from 1978 to 1983. He appeared in the film with many other famous musicians from that time.

Randy Rampage was involved in many other music projects too. These included bands like Stress Factor 9, Fake It Big Time, Ground Zero, Iron Gypsy, Requiem, Riff Raff, and The 45s.

His last music project was a band also called Rampage. They recorded an album with John Webster, but it was not released before he passed away.

Passing Away

Randy Rampage passed away on August 14, 2018. He was 58 years old. He died at his home in Vancouver from what appeared to be a heart attack.
