Rattlesnake at RCDB |
Rattlesnake is an exciting steel roller coaster at Chessington World of Adventures Resort in southwest London, England. It's a "wild mouse" style ride, which means it has lots of sharp turns and quick drops. This fun coaster first opened in 1998.
History of the Ride
The Rattlesnake roller coaster opened in 1998. It was the third roller coaster built at Chessington World of Adventures Resort. The ride was designed by Ing.-Büro Stengel GmbH. It was made by Maurer Söhne, a company known for its "Wilde Maus Classic" roller coasters. The track is over 1,000 feet long!
The park is built on special land called "green belt" land. This means there are rules about how tall buildings and rides can be. To follow these rules, the area for the Rattlesnake was dug out. This means part of the ride is actually below ground level. The ride has a steep lift hill, sharp turns, and small hills that give you a feeling of weightlessness.
The Rattlesnake ride is themed like a Mexican mine from the Wild West. The ride cars look like mine carts. You will also see wooden structures and moving figures that fit the theme. When the ride was added, the park's "Calamity Canyon" area was renamed "Mexicana". This name is still used today.
How the Ride Works
The Rattlesnake adventure begins with a big climb up a lift hill. This hill is at a 45-degree angle. Once you reach the top, the car leaves the chain. You then turn right and wind your way down a slightly sloped track. You will make 180-degree turns as you go.
Next, you travel around a long 270-degree right turn into a straight section. You go up a small slope and then into some brakes. A 180-degree turn follows, leading to a big drop down and then up again. Another 180-degree right turn comes next. This leads into several small hills that give you a fun "airtime" feeling.
You then enter a building that looks damaged. This is where your on-ride photo is taken! After that, you go through another 180-degree turn. You will experience one more airtime hill before reaching the final set of brakes. These brakes will bring your ride to a quick stop.
Ride Safety and Rules
To ride Rattlesnake, you must be at least 1.4 metres (about 4 feet 7 inches) tall. The maximum height allowed is 1.96 metres (about 6 feet 5 inches). There are also rules about chest size. If your waist is 51 inches or more, you might not fit. The lap-bar must fit securely over your legs to keep you safe. If it doesn't, you cannot ride.
The ride can be a bit bumpy and jerky. For this reason, it is not recommended for anyone with back or neck problems. These rules are in place to make sure everyone has a safe and fun experience.
