Ray Loriga, whose real name is Jorge Loriga Torrenova, was born on March 5, 1967. He is a Spanish writer, a person who writes movie scripts (screenwriter), and a movie director.
Ray Loriga started his writing career with his first novel, Lo Peor de todo (which means The Worst Thing of All), published in 1992. After that, he wrote Héroes in 1993. His book Caídos del Cielo - La pistola de mi hermano (My Brother's Gun) was the first of his novels to be translated into English. He even directed a movie based on this book in 1997.
In 1997, he also worked with famous director Pedro Almodóvar and Jorge Guerricaechevarria. They wrote the script for the movie Carne trémula (Live Flesh). This movie script was based on a book by the writer Ruth Rendell. Another one of his books translated into English was Tokio ya no nos quiere (Tokyo Doesn't Love Us Anymore).
In April 2017, Ray Loriga won the Alfaguara Prize for his novel Rendición (Surrender). This is one of the most important and valuable literary awards for books written in Spanish. His most recent novel, Sábado, domingo (Saturday, Sunday), was published in February 2019.
