Raymond Bernard Seals (born June 17, 1965 – died April 4, 2025) was an American football player. He played as a defensive end in the National Football League (NFL). Raymond was special because he made it to the NFL without going to college, which is very rare! He even played in a big game called Super Bowl XXX with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Raymond Seals' Football Journey
High School and Early Days
Raymond Seals played football at Anthony A. Henninger High School in Syracuse, New York. He was a talented player even then.
After high school, Raymond played for a minor-league team called the Syracuse Express. This was a stepping stone for him.
Making it to the NFL
In 1989, Raymond Seals joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This was a huge step, as he moved from a smaller league straight into the NFL!
He later played for the Detroit Lions and Indianapolis Colts in 1990. Raymond then returned to the Buccaneers from 1991 to 1993.
In 1994, Raymond joined the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played as their starting right defensive end for two seasons. He was injured in 1996, his third season with the Steelers. He finished his NFL career with the Carolina Panthers in 1997.
A Memorable Play
Raymond Seals was known for a famous play involving quarterback Brett Favre. Raymond batted away a pass thrown by Favre, but Favre himself caught the ball! This became the very first completed pass in Brett Favre's long and successful career.
Life Outside Football
In 1992, Raymond Seals was honored for his achievements. He was inducted into the American Football Association's Semi-Pro Football Hall of Fame. This recognized his great talent and hard work in football.
Raymond Seals passed away in Tampa, Florida on April 4, 2025, when he was 59 years old.
