Early Life and Education
Raymond Ndong Sima was born on January 23, 1955. His hometown is Oyem, which is in the northern part of Gabon. He later went to France to continue his studies.
Start of His Political Journey
Ndong Sima began his career in government in 1986. He worked in the department that handled planning and the economy. His job involved managing Gabon's money and working with big international financial groups.
In 1992, he became a top leader in the economy department. He kept this role until 1994. After that, from 1994 to 1998, he led a state-owned company called Hévégab, which grew rubber.
Becoming a Minister
On October 17, 2009, Raymond Ndong Sima was chosen to be a government minister. He was in charge of agriculture, livestock, and rural development. This meant he helped with farming and animal care across the country.
Joining the National Assembly
In December 2011, Gabon held elections for its parliament. The ruling party, the Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG), won most of the seats. Ndong Sima was elected to the National Assembly of Gabon, which is like the country's main law-making body. He represented the area of Kyé in the Woleu-Ntem Province.
First Time as Prime Minister
The previous Prime Minister, Paul Biyoghe Mba, stepped down in February 2012. On February 27, 2012, President Ali Bongo Ondimba chose Raymond Ndong Sima to be the new prime minister. This was a notable choice because the prime minister job usually went to someone from a different region. However, Ndong Sima was also from the Fang ethnic group, which is common for this role. Before this, he was not widely known in politics.
Ndong Sima served as prime minister for almost two years. After local elections in December 2013, President Bongo appointed Daniel Ona Ondo to take his place. Ndong Sima officially handed over his duties on January 27, 2014.
Leaving the Ruling Party
In July 2015, Ndong Sima decided to leave the PDG, the ruling party. He said the party was not open to different ideas or criticism. He also spoke out about how the government was managing money after he left office. The party's leader, Faustin Boukoubi, said that Ndong Sima was just looking for opportunities and that the party was democratic inside.
Presidential Campaigns and Return to Office
After leaving the PDG, Raymond Ndong Sima ran for president twice against President Bongo. He ran in the 2016 and 2023 elections but did not win, getting less than 0.5% of the votes each time.
Following a change in government in August 2023, he was appointed again as prime minister. This happened on September 7, 2023, by the interim president, Brice Oligui Nguema. He led a temporary government. His second term as prime minister ended on May 4, 2025, when he resigned from office.
