The Raymond Railroad Depot is a very old train station in Raymond, New Hampshire. It was built in 1893 and used to be a busy stop for the Boston and Maine Railroad. Today, it is a special museum run by the Raymond Historical Society. This building is important because it shows what train stations looked like a long time ago. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Discovering the Raymond Train Depot
The Raymond Railroad Depot is right in the middle of Raymond's town center. You can find it on Main Street, next to what used to be the train tracks. These old tracks are now a fun path called the Rockingham Recreational Trail.
What the Depot Looks Like
The building is made of wood and has one floor. It has a cool roof that sticks out all around. This roof gave shelter to people waiting for trains on the platforms. Strong wooden posts hold up the roof, and they have fancy carved designs.
The outside of the depot has two different types of wood siding. Some parts have flat wooden boards, and other parts have pretty, rounded shingles. There are also parts that stick out, like the ticket booth. This is where people bought their train tickets. You can still see some of the original signal equipment there!
Inside the Historic Station
When you go inside, you can imagine what it was like when trains were running. The building has been made into a museum. You can still see the old benches where people waited for their trains. There were also gates that separated the baggage area from where people bought tickets.
A Brief History of Raymond's Train Service
Trains first came to Raymond in 1850. The Portsmouth and Concord Railroad started service then. The very first train station here burned down in 1878. A new one was built quickly, but it also burned in a big fire in 1892. That fire destroyed much of the town center.
Building the Current Depot
The train station you see today was built in 1893. The Boston and Maine Railroad built it after they took over the Portsmouth and Concord line. This new station was made to last.
The Depot as a Museum Today
The Raymond Historical Society has done a great job restoring the depot. They keep it looking just like it did in the past. They even have a real locomotive, a boxcar, a caboose, and a work car on display nearby. It's a fantastic place to learn about trains and local history!
