Rayna Kasabova's Historic Flight

Joining the Air Force

In 1912, when Rayna was only 15 years old, she joined the Bulgarian Air Force. This was during a time known as the First Balkan War. It was a big conflict in the Balkan region of Europe.

Flying Over Edirne

During the war, Rayna took part in a special mission. She flew in an airplane over the city of Edirne. Her job was to drop special papers from the sky. These papers were called leaflets.

What Were the Leaflets For?

The leaflets were written in Turkish. They contained messages meant to encourage people in Edirne to surrender. This was a way to try and end the fighting without more battles. Rayna's flight was a very important and brave act for its time.

A Lasting Legacy

Rayna Kasabova's pioneering spirit is remembered even today. A special place in Antarctica is named after her. It is called Kasabova Glacier. This glacier is located on the Davis Coast in Graham Land, on the Antarctic Peninsula. It serves as a permanent reminder of her historic achievement.
