In Christianity, Jesus is often called the Redeemer or Saviour. These names mean that he saved people. The idea comes from the word "redemption," which means "buying back."

In the New Testament, "redemption" can mean being freed from sin. It can also mean being set free from being held captive. The gospels do not use the exact title "Redeemer." However, the idea of Jesus saving people appears in many of Paul's letters.

Jesus: Saviour for Everyone

The New Testament teaches that Jesus is the one Saviour for all people. The First Epistle of John says that Jesus helps with "our sins." It also says he helps with "the sins of the world" (1 John 2:2).

Early Christians believed Jesus's role as Saviour was special. It was also complete, meaning he offered full salvation. His role was also final, meaning no one else could equal or surpass his saving work.

Because Jesus is a Saviour for everyone, he helps people overcome evil. He also helps them get forgiveness for their sins. Through him, people can become God's loved children.

The idea that "outside Christ there is no salvation" shows how important Jesus is. In the Old Testament, some people were called "saviour." But in the New Testament, only God and Jesus are called "Saviour."
