Who Built the Mound?
Scientists believe the Adena culture built the Reeves Mound. The Adena people were a group of Native Americans. They lived in parts of Ohio and nearby areas a very long time ago. They are known for building many earth mounds.
Discoveries at the Site
Around the mound, archaeologists have found interesting objects. These include stone chips and projectile points. Projectile points are like the tips of arrows or spears. These items are typical of the Adena culture. One special find is a "bird point," which is a unique type of projectile point.
How Old is the Reeves Mound?
It looks like the Adena people used this mound and the area around it for hundreds of years. Some of the points found are from the early Adena period. This period started around 1000 BC (about 3,000 years ago). Other points seem to be from the later Adena period. This period ended around 400 AD (about 1,600 years ago). This shows the site was important for a long time.
Why is the Reeves Mound Important?
The Reeves Mound is very important for understanding ancient history. Because of its value, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. This is a list of places in the United States that are important to history. Another mound in Meigs County, the Mound Cemetery Mound, is also on this list.
