Church History

Reformation Lutheran Church was built in 1952. It has been a place of worship and community gathering for many years in Columbia, South Carolina.

About the Church

Reformation Lutheran Church is a special place because it is part of the Reconciling In Christ (RIC) initiative. This means the church is dedicated to making everyone feel welcome. They offer worship services, special programs, and care for all people. It does not matter their age, background, or where they come from. This church is the only one in South Carolina that is part of the Reconciling in Christ group.

Worship Services

The church holds Holy Eucharist worship services every Sunday. This is a main part of their weekly gathering. They also offer a special service called Taize with Holy Eucharist once a month.

The Pipe Organ

The pipe organ at Reformation Lutheran Church is a very impressive musical instrument. It has almost 2,000 pipes! These pipes come in many different sizes. Some are over 8 feet tall, while others are smaller than a pencil.

The organ was put in place in 1960. It was built by M.P. Möller, a company from Maryland. This company used to be one of the biggest and most famous makers of pipe organs in America. In 1993, the organ was updated to make its sound even better. This update cost over $75,000. The organ has been played in more than 2,500 worship services. If someone wanted to replace the entire organ today, it would cost nearly $750,000.
