Sidney Iking Bateman (born March 13, 1993) is an American professional wrestler and former acrobat. He is currently signed with Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) and uses the ring name Sidney Akeem. Many fans know him from his time in WWE, where he wrestled as Reggie and Scrypts.
Bateman joined WWE in 2020. He first appeared on the SmackDown show as Reginald Thomas, a French sommelier (wine expert). His name was soon shortened to Reginald, and later just Reggie. While in WWE, he became a four-time WWE 24/7 Champion. His first time holding the title lasted 112 days, which was the longest for that championship. After a break in mid-2022, he returned in November with a new, mysterious character called Scrypts in WWE's developmental brand NXT.

Early Life and Circus Dreams
Sidney Iking Bateman was born on March 13, 1993, in Memphis, Tennessee. He grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, as one of eight siblings. When he was younger, Sidney enjoyed playing football and basketball. He also had a special hobby: the circus!
How Circus Became His Focus
At 16, Sidney decided to focus completely on his circus dreams. He trained for seven years at Circus Harmony and then three more years in Montreal. He even performed for the famous Cirque du Soleil. This amazing background helped him become a unique professional wrestler later on.
Sidney Bateman's Wrestling Journey
Sidney Bateman began his professional wrestling career in 2020. He quickly made a name for himself in WWE. His journey included different characters and exciting championship wins.
Starting in WWE (2020–2022)
On January 14, 2020, Sidney Bateman officially signed with WWE. He first appeared on the SmackDown show on December 11, 2020. He was known as Reginald Thomas, a French sommelier for the wrestler Carmella. His name was soon shortened to Reginald.
First Matches and Title Wins
Reginald had his first match on January 22, 2021, against Sasha Banks, but he lost. Carmella later fired him on March 5. After a short time with Sasha Banks, Reginald started managing Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler. However, they turned on him on July 19, 2021, during Raw. Later that night, he won his first title in WWE, the WWE 24/7 Championship, by pinning Akira Tozawa.
Becoming Reggie and Longest Reign
On July 30, 2021, his ring name was shortened to Reggie. He also stopped using the French accent. On September 25, 2021, Reggie became the longest-reigning 24/7 Champion. He lost the title to Drake Maverick on November 8, but quickly won it back a minute later! This showed how unpredictable the 24/7 Championship could be.
More Title Changes and Storylines
Reggie lost the title again on November 22 to Cedric Alexander. After this, Reggie helped Dana Brooke keep her 24/7 title for several months. They even had a storyline where they got engaged on March 28, 2022. During their storyline wedding on April 18, Reggie pinned Dana to win his fourth 24/7 title. He lost it shortly after to Tamina. Their storyline relationship ended, and this was Reggie's last appearance before taking a break.
Moving to NXT (2022–2024)
In late October 2022, mysterious videos started appearing on NXT. These videos featured a new character called Scrypts. Scrypts seemed rebellious and claimed to have amazing skills. On November 22, Reggie debuted on NXT as the mysterious Scrypts, defeating Guru Raaj. This was a big change for his character.
New Alliances and Departure
During his time in NXT, Scrypts had exciting rivalries with wrestlers like Ikemen Jiro and Axiom. After Axiom unmasked him on May 2, 2023, Scrypts became a good guy and teamed up with Axiom. However, on July 18, Scrypts turned on Axiom and joined Bronco Nima and Lucien Price. They formed a group called Out The Mud (O.T.M.). On May 1, 2024, it was announced that Sidney Bateman's WWE contract would end on June 1.
Independent Wrestling (2024–Present)
After leaving WWE, Sidney Bateman continued his wrestling career. On May 21, 2024, it was announced that he would wrestle for Game Changer Wrestling (GCW). He made his debut there on June 15, 2024, using the name Sidney Akeem.
Personal Life
Sidney Bateman is a father of two children. Before becoming a professional wrestler, he had a remarkable career in the circus. He trained for many years and even performed with Cirque du Soleil. This unique background gave him incredible agility and athleticism, which he now uses in the wrestling ring.
