Sir Reginald le Chen's Life

Sir Reginald lived during a time when Scotland and England often had conflicts. He was captured by the English army during the Battle of Dunbar in 1296. This meant he was taken as a prisoner to England and stayed there until he was set free in 1299.

Later, in 1320, Sir Reginald showed his support for Scotland's independence. He was one of the many important people who signed the Declaration of Arbroath. This famous letter was sent to the Pope, explaining why Scotland should remain a free and independent country.

Sir Reginald le Chen married a woman named Helen. She was the daughter of Malise, who was the Earl of Strathearn, and Joanna Menteith. Together, Reginald and Helen had two daughters:

  • Mariota: She married twice. Her first husband was John Douglas. Later, she married John Keith, who was the second son of Sir Edward Keith, a very important Scottish official.
