Reinhold Schneider facts for kids
Reinhold Schneider was a German writer who lived from 1903 to 1958. He was born in Baden-Baden and passed away in Freiburg im Breisgau. He wrote many poems and novels. At first, his writings were not very religious. But later, his poetry became strongly influenced by Christian and Catholic beliefs. Some of his first works were about the Portuguese poet Luís de Camões and the country of Portugal.
Standing Up to Injustice
Reinhold Schneider wrote poems that were against war. Because of this, his books were banned in Nazi Germany. In 1938, he wrote a book called Las Casas. This book explored how people who follow Christian beliefs should react to unfair government control. It also criticized the Nazi government's harsh actions and their hatred towards Jewish people. This led to all his works being officially banned from being published.
During World War II, some of Schneider's friends were part of groups like the 'Kreisau Circle'. These groups were secretly working against the Nazi government. Even though his books were banned, Schneider's writings were still published in a secret newspaper called White Papers. His ideas were also shared "underground" and small pamphlets were given to soldiers fighting in the war. He was accused of writing things that made people lose hope during the war. However, the war ended before he could be put on trial.
