Relief is a small, unincorporated community located in Morgan County, Kentucky, in the United States. It is not a city or town with its own government. Instead, it is a collection of homes and businesses that are part of the larger county area.
Relief can be found along Route 172. It is located east of West Liberty. West Liberty is the main town and the county seat for Morgan County. The land in Relief is about 732 feet (223 meters) above sea level.
Why the Name 'Relief'?
The community of Relief got its unique name from something important that happened there a long time ago. In 1859, a post office was opened in the area. This was a big deal for the people living there.
Having a post office meant they no longer had to travel far to send or receive mail. This convenience brought a great sense of "relief" to the early settlers. Because of this feeling, they decided to name their community Relief. The post office served the community for many years, finally closing in 1983.
