Rella Aylestock Braithwaite (January 29, 1923 – July 23, 2019) was an important Canadian author. She wrote about Black history and helped share stories that were not often told.

Early Life and Education
Rella Braithwaite was born in Mapleton, Ontario, Canada. Her family were descendants of Black pioneers. These pioneers had settled in an area called the Queen's Bush. Rella went to school in Listowel, Ontario.
Family and Community Work
In 1946, Rella married Bob Braithwaite. They moved to Scarborough, Ontario, which is now part of Toronto. Rella was very involved in her community. She even served on the local school board. This meant she helped make decisions about schools in her area.
Writing and Contributions
Rella Braithwaite had a strong interest in Black history. She wrote a regular column about it for a newspaper called Contrast. This helped many people learn about important historical events and figures.
In 1975, she published a book titled The Black Woman in Canada. This book highlighted the achievements of amazing Black women in Canada. It was a very important work because it shared stories that were not widely known.
Rella also worked with the Ministry of Education in Ontario. She helped them create a guide for teachers. This guide was about Black Studies and was used in classrooms. It helped students learn more about Black history and culture.
Her Daughter
Rella Braithwaite's daughter is Diana Braithwaite. Diana is a well-known singer.
