For example, the movie The Thomas Crown Affair first came out in 1968. It was about a bank robbery. Later, in 1999, a new version called The Thomas Crown Affair was made. This remake changed the main crime to the theft of a very valuable painting instead of a bank robbery. This shows how a remake can keep the spirit of the original but update parts of the plot.

Remakes are popular because they can introduce classic stories to new audiences. They can also use modern special effects or filmmaking techniques that weren't available when the original was made.
