Early Life and School
Remi Vaughan-Richards was born in Nigeria. Her father, Alan Richards, was a British architect. Her mother, Ayo Vaughan, was a nurse who started the Lagos State School of Nursing. Remi is one of four children.
Her family used the last name Vaughan-Richards. She studied at Kingston University and the Royal College of Art in London, England.
Her Career in Film
Remi Vaughan-Richards started her career in the art department of movies. This means she helped with the look and feel of the film sets. She worked on big films like Judge Dredd (1995) and Eyes Wide Shut (1999).
She has made many films and documentaries. In 2020, she finished a documentary called “The Lost Legacy of Bida Bikini.” This film is now available to watch on the British Museum website.
Her other works include Wetin Dey for the BBC World Service Trust. She also made “Laraba’s World” and One Small Step. Remi created the “Hidden Treasures” series about early Nigerian artists.

Remi Vaughan-Richards spent six years making Faaji Agba (2016). This is a full-length documentary about the history of music in Lagos, Nigeria. Older musicians shared their stories for the film.
She is the creative director of her own company, Singing Tree Films. Her film Unspoken was shown at the 6th Annual Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) in Lagos in 2016. In 2019, she was featured in the Polaris catalogue, where she was interviewed about her work.
