Remi Vaughan-Richards was born in Nigeria. She was one of four children. Her father, Alan Richards, was a British architect. Her mother, Ayo Vaughan, was a nurse educator. Ayo Vaughan also started the Lagos State School of Nursing. Remi's mother came from a well-known family in Lagos. Her family's history includes a 19th-century American artisan named Scipio Vaughan. All the family members used the last name Vaughan-Richards.

Faaji Agba and Other Films
Remi Vaughan-Richards spent six years making a documentary called Faaji Agba. This film was released in 2016. It tells the story of the music scene in Lagos, Nigeria. Older musicians shared their memories for the film.
