Remo Sernagiotto (born September 1, 1955 – died November 29, 2020) was an Italian politician. He came from a region in Italy called Veneto.
Remo Sernagiotto's Political Journey
Remo Sernagiotto was born in Montebelluna, Italy. He became a politician and was part of the Christian Democrat party for a long time. In 2000, he was first chosen to be a member of the Regional Council of Veneto. This council helps make decisions for the Veneto region. He was elected with the Forza Italia (FI) party.
He was chosen again for the Regional Council in 2005. He became the leader of his party's group in the council. He often spoke out about things he disagreed with, especially concerning President Giancarlo Galan. In 2010, he was re-elected with The People of Freedom (PdL) party. He then became a regional minister, in charge of Social Affairs for the region.
Serving in the European Parliament
In 2014, Remo Sernagiotto was elected as a member of the European Parliament (MEP). This meant he would represent Italy in the European Parliament. He was elected for the new Forza Italia party. After becoming an MEP, he stepped down from his role as regional minister.
In July 2015, he left the Forza Italia party. He also left the European People's Party group in the European Parliament. He joined a new group called the European Conservatives and Reformists Group (ECRG). This was with another MEP, Raffaele Fitto. They joined a new Italian party called Italian Conservatives and Reformists (CR). In 2017, he and Fitto helped create an even newer party called Direction Italy (DI).
