Who Was René Hausman?
René Hausman was born in Verviers, Belgium, in 1936. He loved art from a young age. When he was 18, he met a famous comic artist named Raymond Macherot. This meeting inspired him to stop his studies and become an artist.
How Did Hausman Start His Career?
René Hausman began his career by creating illustrations for local magazines. A few years later, he started working for Le Moustique. This was a popular family magazine published by Dupuis.
He then moved to Spirou magazine in 1957. Spirou is a well-known Franco-Belgian comics magazine. There, he created his first comic, Saki et Zunie. The story for this comic was written by Yvan Delporte.
What Was Hausman Known For?
Over the years, René Hausman drew more than 500 illustrations for Spirou magazine. He was especially good at drawing animals and showing local folklore. Because of this, people called him the "Bard of the Ardennes". A bard is like a storyteller or poet.
His work often featured nature and animals. René Hausman himself lived in the countryside for his entire life. This love for nature clearly showed in his art.
Hausman's Artistic Style and Influence
René Hausman was also a sculptor and played the bagpipes. While his works did not become huge commercial hits, he was highly respected. People admired his amazing use of colours. They also loved how he used fantasy in his stories.
