René Metge (born October 23, 1941 – died January 3, 2024) was a famous rally driver from France. He was known for his amazing skills in off-road racing. René Metge won the very challenging Dakar Rally three times during his career.

René Metge's Racing Career

René Metge started his exciting career in international motor racing in 1973. He first competed in a series called the Formula Renault 2.0 West European Cup. He earned 28 points in this competition.

Over the years, Metge raced in many different types of events. These included the French Supertouring Championship, the FIA World Endurance Championship, and the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race. He was a versatile driver, meaning he was good at many kinds of racing.

Dakar Rally Wins

René Metge is most famous for his success in the Dakar Rally. This is a very long and difficult off-road race that tests both drivers and their vehicles to the limit. Metge proved himself to be a true champion by winning this tough race three times:

His victories in the Dakar Rally made him a legend in the world of rally racing.
