The Renault Mégane is a popular small family car made by the French car company Renault. It first came out at the end of 1995. This car was designed to replace an older model called the Renault 19.
Over the years, the Mégane has been available in many different shapes and sizes. You could find it as a three-door or five-door hatchback (a car with a back door that swings up), a saloon (a car with a separate trunk), a coupé (a sporty two-door car), a convertible (a car with a roof that can open), and a estate (a car with a lot of space in the back). The Mégane has gone through four main designs, or "generations," since it was first made.

First Generation (1995–2003)
The very first Mégane cars arrived in late 1995. They were built to take the place of the Renault 19. This first generation of Mégane cars came in many different body styles and had various engines.
The Mégane also became the base for another important car, the Renault Scénic. This was Europe's first compact MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle), which came out in late 1996. It was a car designed to carry many people or lots of cargo.
The first Mégane models got a fresh new look in April 1999. Around this time, a station wagon version also appeared, though it wasn't sold in the UK. Even after a brand new Mégane design came out in late 2002, the original first-generation models were still sold into 2003. This continued until all the different body styles were redesigned.
