Renee Rosalind Jenkins, born in 1947, is an American doctor who specializes in helping teenagers. She is famous for being the first African-American president of two important medical groups: the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Society of Adolescent Medicine.

Her Early Life and School

Renee Jenkins was born in Philadelphia. She grew up there and in Detroit. She went to Wayne State University for her college degree in 1967. Then, she earned her doctor's degree in 1971.

After medical school, she trained to become a pediatrician at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. A pediatrician is a doctor who cares for children. She also studied adolescent medicine there, which is about helping teenagers. She finished her training in 1975. Later, in 1986, she studied population dynamics at Johns Hopkins University. This field looks at how populations change.

Her Amazing Career

Dr. Jenkins started her career at Howard University. She taught in the pediatrics department. She also became the first director of Adolescent Services there. This means she helped set up services for teenagers.

From 1994 to 2007, she was in charge of the pediatrics department at Howard. She has also worked with several professional groups. These include the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Society of Adolescent Medicine. She has also written for Nelson's Textbook of Pediatrics, a very important medical book. As of 2016, Dr. Jenkins is a professor at both Howard University and George Washington University.
