Playing Days
René Desaeyere was a talented football player from Belgium. He played as a defender, which is a player who helps protect their team's goal. His career as a player lasted from 1967 to 1987.
He played for several well-known Belgian clubs. These included Beerschot, Daring Club Bruxelles, and Royal Antwerp. He spent seven years at Royal Antwerp, playing 191 games and scoring 8 goals. He also played for R.W.D. Molenbeek, Berchem Sport, and Dessel Sport.
Becoming a Coach
After his playing career, René Desaeyere became a football manager. This means he was in charge of training and leading football teams. He started coaching in 1984, even while still playing for Dessel Sport.
He managed many different clubs, mostly in Belgium. Some of these teams included Berchem Sport, Standard de Liège, Beveren, and Royal Antwerp. He also coached Genk and Germinal Ekeren.
Coaching Around the World
René Desaeyere also coached football teams in other countries. He managed Cheonan Ilhwa Chunma in South Korea from 1997 to 1998. He then moved to Japan to coach Cerezo Osaka from 1999 to 2000.
Later in his career, he spent a lot of time coaching in Southeast Asia. He managed Muangthong United in Thailand twice, in 2010-2011 and again in 2013. He also coached other Thai teams like Chiangmai and Suphanburi. From 2015 to 2017, he was the manager of Yadanarbon in Myanmar.
More recently, he coached Ratchaburi Mitr Phol in Thailand in 2018. From 2022 to 2023, he managed Hua Hin City. Since 2023, he has been coaching Maraleina.
