Republican Party (France) facts for kids
The Republican Party (which in French was called Parti républicain, or PR) was a political group in France. It was active from 1977 to 1997. This party was known for its conservative liberalism ideas.
The Republican Party was started by Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, who later became the President of France. It took the place of an older group called the National Federation of the Independent Republicans, which had been around since 1966.
The party believed in certain things:
- It was generally conservative when it came to how the country was run, social issues, and money matters.
- It supported NATO, which is a military alliance of many countries.
- It was pro-European, meaning it supported closer cooperation and unity among European countries.
