Reuben Nicholas Trane (September 13, 1886 – September 5, 1954) was an American engineer. He helped create the well-known company, Trane. This company makes heating and air conditioning systems. Reuben started Trane with his father, James Trane.

Early Life and Education
Reuben Trane was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin, on September 13, 1886. He went to La Crosse Central High School and finished in 1906.
After high school, Reuben went to college. In 1910, he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He studied at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. A mechanical engineer designs and builds machines.
Starting The Trane Company
Reuben Trane worked with his father, James Trane. James was a plumber who had invented a special type of heating system. In 1913, Reuben and his father officially started their company. They called it The Trane Company.
Inventions and Leadership
Reuben Trane was very creative. In 1923, he invented something important. It was called the convector radiator. This device helped to heat buildings more efficiently.
Reuben was a leader in his company for many years.
- From 1916 to 1951, he was the president of Trane.
- From 1951 until he passed away in 1954, he was the chairman of the board.
Professional Recognition
Reuben Trane was a respected engineer. He was a member of important groups for heating and ventilation experts. One of these was the American Society of Heating and Ventilating Engineers (ASHRAE). They gave him a lifetime membership in 1951.
Many years later, in 1997, Reuben Trane was honored again. He was added to the ASHRAE Hall of Fame. This shows how much his work helped the heating and cooling industry.
