Reus Imperials facts for kids

The Reus Imperials is an American football team from Reus, Spain. They were started in late 1989 by Josep Lluis Castán y Solanellas. He moved from Barcelona to Reus and decided to create the team there.

Team History

How the Team Started

The team began as The Terraco Imperials. It was founded in Tarragona by Josep Lluis Castán y Solanellas. He used to play American football for the Barcelona Howlers and the Barcelona Broncos.

Changes and New Home

For the 1992-93 season, the team got a sponsor. This changed their colors from red, yellow, and white to green, yellow, and white. The next season, another team called the Senglars de Reus joined them.

However, they lost their sponsor and played in different stadiums across the Province of Tarragona. In the 1994-95 season, the team finally settled in Reus. The city's sports institute helped them play all their games there. From then on, they played continuously in the Catalan American Football League.

Winning Seasons

Former NFL player Mike Sullivan coached the team to win the Catalan League championships in 1998 and 1999. After Mike Sullivan left, the team had less success for a while.

But in the 2005-06 season, they won another Catalan League championship. In the years that followed, the Reus Imperials won several more Catalan League and LNFA Serie B championships.

Moving Up Leagues

At the start of the 2015-2016 season, the Reus Imperials moved from Serie B to Serie A. They could not play in Serie A for the 2017-2018 season. However, they returned to compete in that league for the 2018-2019 season.
