Rex Liddy's Early Life and Football Start

Rex Liddy grew up in Hopevale and Cairns, Queensland. His uncle is Matt Bowen, a well-known Rugby league player. Rex was raised in an Indigenous Australian family and spoke the Guugu Yimithirr language.

Talent scouts noticed Rex's skills early on. He joined the AFL KickStart program, which helps young players develop. He started playing Australian rules football with the North Cairns Tigers in AFL Cairns.

In 2008, Rex joined the Flying Boomerangs team and traveled to South Africa. Later, he moved to Brisbane. There, he studied at St Peters Lutheran College and played football with the Kenmore Bears.

Rex was chosen by the Gold Coast Football Club as a special "zone priority selection." This meant they picked him because he was a talented player from their local area.

Rex Liddy's AFL Career

Rex Liddy made his big debut in the AFL in 2011. This was a special year because it was the Gold Coast Football Club's very first season in the league.

He played his first game in Round 12 against North Melbourne. Rex played four games in total during the 2011 season.

At the end of that year, Rex decided to step away from playing at the highest level. He shared that he no longer felt the strong desire to train and compete as a professional player.
