Reykjavík University (RU; Icelandic: Háskólinn í Reykjavík) is the biggest private university in Iceland. About 3,300 students go there. It was started by important business groups in Iceland.
The university has seven different study areas, split into two main schools. The School of Social Sciences includes subjects like Law, Business, Sports Science, and Psychology. The School of Technology teaches Computer Science, Engineering, and Applied Engineering. You can study in both Icelandic and English at RU.

History of Reykjavík University
Reykjavík University began from a computer science school in January 1988. This school was part of the Commercial College of Iceland for ten years.
On September 1, 1998, the university officially opened its doors. It was first called the Reykjavík School of Business. The old computer science school became one of its departments. The name was later changed to Reykjavík University in January 2000. This new name better described all the different subjects taught there.
In 2002, a Law School was added. Then, in 2005, Reykjavík University joined with the Technical University of Iceland. After this, the School of Science and Engineering was created, offering many new engineering courses.

What You Can Study
The university has seven different departments where students can learn and do research. These are grouped into two main schools:
School of Social Sciences

Iceland School of Energy
The Iceland School of Energy is part of the School of Science and Engineering. Here, students can learn about and research ways to create and manage sustainable energy, like geothermal or hydropower.
Research at RU
Reykjavík University focuses its research on technology, business, and law. In 2016, scientists at RU published many articles and papers. They shared their findings at conferences and in academic journals.
University Campus
Reykjavík University is located in Nauthólsvík, a part of Reykjavík. The main building opened in January 2010. It is designed to look like the sun, with different parts spreading out from the center.
The building has everything students need. There are classrooms, lecture halls, a library, a gym, and places to eat. Students can also find quiet study areas and rooms for group work. Students can even access the study facilities 24 hours a day, 7 days a week!
University Partnerships
Reykjavík University works with many other universities and companies. They team up for research and to offer special study programs. For example, students can get two degrees at once in computer science by studying with the University of Camerino. Students can also join exchange programs to study abroad through networks like Nordplus.
International Recognition
Several programs at Reykjavík University have received special recognition from international groups.
- The Master of Project Management (MPM) program is approved by the Association for Project Management (APM).
- The Executive MBA program has a 5-year accreditation from the Association of MBAs (AMBA) in London.
- The undergraduate program in Business Studies has received EPAS accreditation.
- Some programs in the School of Computer Science have received EQANIE accreditation. These accreditations mean that the programs meet high international standards.
